Bushy Strong started when Amy Ennis was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016 at the age of 38. Amy continues to give back and spread awareness. She has contributed to numerous blog articles, published a children's book with kid friendly language discussing cancer, and supports others with healthy lifestyle tips and ideas. Through various fundraising efforts, she has raised thousands of dollars for patients like her.
Seanie Strong was formed in 2013 when Sara Marshall's son Sean was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. He was diagnosed at 11 months and received top notch treatment at the Jimmy Fund for over two years before he passed away just after his third birthday. After Sean passed, the Marshalls wanted to continue to participate in the Jimmy Fund Walk in memory of their sweet boy. Through the Jimmy Fund, they established the Sean E. Marshall Foundation for Neuroblastoma Research and direct all their team’s fundraising to support ongoing research.
Over their first seven years as a team, Team Tara has raised over $1,000,000 for cancer patients and research at The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Lead by Tara Shuman and Amy Killeen, they have focused their efforts on cancers that have traditionally received less financial support, including lung, pancreatic, and metastatic colon cancer. Every two years they choose to honor a particular individual and a new research effort but they remain focused on their mission: to inspire and empower people to take steps to help conquer cancer.
